Why Isn't SMC BBB Accredited

When you research Specialty Merchandise Corporation with the Better Business Bureau, you might first notice that SMC is not BBB accredited.  Just because SMC does not sport a BBB accreditation, it does not mean SMC is any less of a reliable company.

SMC BBB : Are All Reliable Companies BBB Accredited?

By no means are all reliable companies BBB accredited.  Many companies believe their own reputation should be enough for customers to trust them.  A good reputation is even more important than a BBB accreditation. Many businesses that have been around for years, and that even have a good standing with the BBB, are still not BBB accredited.

SMC BBB : What Does It Take to Be Accredited?

No matter what SMC does, SMC BBB accreditation is not possible unless SMC pays a fee for accreditation and review monitoring.  SMC must also fill out all required forms in order for the BBB to accept them as a member.

SMC BBB : Does Accreditation Equal Quality?

Accreditation does not equal quality.  BBB accreditation does not mean a company has been evaluated by the BBB.  It also does not mean that the BBB has reviewed any of the products or services a company offers. Unless a complaint is filed, the BBB relies on the paperwork the company fills out to determine accreditation status.  SMC BBB accreditation would only mean that SMC has successfully completed the paperwork the BBB requires.

Some very suspicious businesses are BBB accredited.  However, the BBB can and does score a business.  A score is more important than accreditation.  Even more important is the number of unresolved complaints pending against a company.  Unresolved complaints are a true sign of a suspicious company.

SMC BBB : Why Is SMC Listed?

Even though SMC is not BBB accredited, they are still listed on the BBB website.  Anytime someone wants more professional research into a company, they contact the BBB.  If a complaint is filed, the BBB lists the company. This provides the BBB with listings of non-accredited businesses such as SMC.  Complaints have been filed through the BBB against SMC.  However, all complaints have been resolved.  The BBB lists all complaints in detail, along with a brief analysis of SMC.

Will SMC Become Accredited in the Future?

The odds are SMC will not seek BBB accreditation in the future.  SMC already has an extensive membership, with members having their own customer bases.  The businesses of many SMC members actually are accredited.  If SMC was not trustworthy, these businesses would choose to use another company for their products.

Since SMC is doing well on their own, seeking BBB accreditation would likely do little good.  Since accreditation is not a real indication of a company's reliability, SMC BBB accreditation would prove little about the company.

SMC has spent sixty years creating a business model that works, not only for them, but for their members.  A true indication of the type of company SMC is can be found in the testimonials from other members.  After seeing how other members succeed, it is easy to see that SMC needs nothing but their own hard earned reputation to showcase their dependability.
